The fucking SAVE Act thing...

So the haters were getting all soupy in their collective panties a couple of weeks ago about this shit:

SAVE Act Discharge Petition Filed, Gaining Momentum
Supporters of the enforcement-only (Secure America with Verification Enforcement; H.R. 4088) have already gained more than two-thirds of the signers needed to force a vote in the U.S. House. of the Discharge Petition filed by Rep. Thelma Drake (R-Va.) March 11.
If the petition collects 218 House signatures, a simple majority, the bill can bypass the committee process and be placed on the House floor for a vote, regardless of any objections by Democratic leaders.
It was reported last week that Democrats are still working on alternative plans for the immigration debate. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has been pushing a plan to grant legal work permits for millions of illegal aliens currently holding jobs and huge increases in H-2B and H-1B visas for all types of foreign workers. However, several Democrats -- including SAVE Act sponsor Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) -- were among the first to sign the discharge petition to go around Speaker Pelosi.

One idiot in particular on Gut Check, a poster called "willingsniper" started a circle jerk on the board posting how many legislators had signed on with multiple daily updates. Now that the number of idiots that pander to the haters has reached a peak, and defeat looks eminent, he hasn't posted anything else.

Anyway, here is what the fuss is all about...

The SAVE Act is Co-Sponsored by Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC) and Rep Brian Bilbray (R-CA), who now chairs Tom Tancredo’s Immigration Reform Caucus. Two identical bills have been introduced in the Senate by Mark Pryor (D-AR), Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and David Vitter (R-LA).
The SAVE Act is an enforcement-only immigration bill that would require approximately six million employers to verify the work status of more than 130 million workers within four years using a system that has an error rate of almost 10%!
If this law were in place now, the errors in the SSA database alone could result in 2.5 million people a year being misidentified as unauthorized for employment, even US Citizens!
It would make it easier for the government to put religious and humanitarian workers behind bars for so-called “alien smuggling” and waste millions of tax-payer dollars on enforcement, detention and deportation programs that have been tried for the last twenty years and failed to end unauthorized immigration

SO, what happened was this...supporters of the SAVE Act filed a discharge petition in the House of Representatives in an attempt to force a vote on the House floor. "Okay", you're thinking...what the fuck does THAT mean?"

Good question! Here's a down and dirty explanation from wiki: "it is used when the chair of a committee refuses to place a bill or resolution on the Committee's agenda; by never reporting a bill, the matter will never leave the committee and the full House will not be able to consider it. A successful petition "discharges" the committee from further consideration of a bill or resolution and brings it directly to the floor. "

Anyway, it looks like this will be another lame immigration issue that bites the dust next week.

YAY!
